Why this blog?

Written by John Kim

This will be my only post. I created this website as a place for prior students and friends to put their thoughts on (metaphorical) paper. I am the editor, not the writer.

1. Let’s keep the conversation going.

No reason for perfectly good discussions to end.  The end of the semester or “workshop” is an artificial boundary. Learning and good conversation doesn’t have an expiration date.

What’s more – the seismic changes we’ve seen in customer behavior, business models, and industry dynamics matter. They are fascinating, largely undecided, and worthy of debate.  Basically, there is lots of nerdy business stuff to talk about.

2. Let’s see your thinking.

Good writing is rare.  Good business writing is almost extinct.

3. Isn’t this work?

Yes, this will be more work that watching Money Heist on Netflix.

No, you’ll find it fun and rewarding.  I promise you will be be proud of the words you put down.  I tell people all the time to start blogging. . . but it’s hard to do this alone. I get it – some good reasons, some myths:

  • “Writing is hard. Writing is work.” (oh, true)
  • “To build an audience, you need write consistently” (oh, true)
  • “Blogs seems dated.” (myth)
  • “Learning WordPress is probably complicated.” (myth)
  • “I’m too young in my career to have something to say.” (myth)

So, here’s a way for you to join a community of BBA/MBA writers. Send me an idea / article you want to think/write on. If you’ll let me help you edit, then this could be a fun way for us to work together and publish it here under your name.

It will say “Written by __________” with a hyperlink to your Linkedin.

4. Let’s answer the question, “so what?”

The internet is an explosion of new data, most of which is noise. Yes, YouTube has 300 hours of new content uploaded every minute. Exhausting.

So, instead, this writing will be clear, logical, and useful.  It’s content that your friends and work colleagues would not mind reading. There is a LOT of stuff to talk about. . .

5. Let’s have fun and improve this thing.
